Painting pictures of Egypt

This morning I was doing breakfast dishes and looking out my kitchen window, watching the snow fall - Again.  Immediately I thought, "goodness, it is April 17th shouldn't we be done with the snow by now. I should be looking out my window seeing green grass, spring flowers, birds building nests, not snow."  The very next thought caught me off guard and I knew that Jesus was speaking to me, not just about the weather but about life in general and how we often view it.
Sara Groves sings a song about when God took the Israelites out of Egypt, they began grumbling and thinking back to how Egypt really wasn't that bad...they were slaves that were under extreme persecution, it really was terrible for them. They were "painting pictures of Egypt", making it better in their memories and forgetting that God heard their cry, answered their prayer and was taking them to the most wonderful Promise Land.
So as I watched the snow falling down I thought back to last summer, all the fires, the drought and how we all just longed for moisture, it was too dry - perhaps we cried to the Lord, "bring rain, bring moisture."  Now we are getting a wonderful dose of moisture and here we are complaining that it is snowing on our tulips!

How am I living my life?  Am I constantly looking at the negative?  Wishing for what I don't have?  My hearts desire is that I will be able to take each moment and find the good in it. That I can live in the moment and praise Jesus that he is in control and knows what I need and what is best for me.    I am so thankful that that still small voice spoke to me this morning.  My perspective changed, I looked out the window and was able to praise Jesus for the moisture, see the beauty of the freshly falling snow.  I want to take joy in TODAY!

The view out my kitchen window!
