Another mountain top experience (almost)

As most of you know, last summer I had the goal to climb a 14er. Nate and I did two practice mountains to work up to the 14er. Each experience was a good learning time and so enjoyable!
As we were coming down from the top of Elbert, Nate asked me if I would want to do another 14er, I think it was a bit like asking a woman who has just gone through labor if she wants more kids, the moment was not quite right to say, "Yes, absolutely!!"
However, I think I have caught a bit of the bug of hiking and having mountain top experiences, so we are going to do another 14er this summer!
On Saturday we tackled another "practice" mountain. We were planning on doing one that is about 11, 800ft, but decided last minute to go up the Long's Peak trail. We did not plan on summiting, as we started out later than we would have wanted to, and it is a pretty tough summit. However, I was feeling great and we did go to the boulder fields, which are about 12, 800ft!

Unfortunately, Nate got blisters about 2 miles into the hike but was in denial about them because he wears his boots everyday and they never give him blisters. We trudged on the whole 12 miles and he ended up with huge blisters on both feet. He is wearing sandals to work today!

The other mishap was that our last bit of water, in my favorite water bottle, fell out of our pack without us realizing it. We talked to some people who had seen it about a mile or so back, at this point in the hike we didn't think it was worth the time and effort to go back for it!

Over all though, it was a wonderful day, definitely a mountain top experience even without the summit!

Fun Family Times

This summer has been super busy but lots of fun. We got to spend time with my whole family (minus one brother in law, missed you Chris!) and although it is always a little hectic with so many people, we had some great times together.
Some highlights:

*Girls Night 2009! My sister's, cousin, and mom spent the night at my mom's house. We had dinner out, prayer time, lots of talking, and a movie.

*Baptism! My brother in law Dave was baptized by my dad in the Poudre River. It was an awesome thing witness. God is so good and although the rain was pouring we witnessed the power of God's changing love and grace and soon the sun came out. It was a powerful picture of God just washing all our sins away and refreshing our souls. He is so good.

*Rodeo! The whole clan went to the Greeley Stampede Rodeo. It was a lot of fun, especially to see the different reactions of the kids. Sarah's main comment was, "he is getting dirty mom." Everyone had a great time.
4th of July in the mountains

Just a few of the cousins!
